The latest episode of Stalker, My Hero, was uncomfortably creepy! If you haven’t watched it yet then know I’m going to spoil it here. If spoilers are your thing, you’re good but if they fill you with a seething rage, well, at least you’ve been warned.
I had an online stalker once, someone who went out of their way to try to make me feel unsafe. They made my online life miserable for months and I went from wondering what I did to cause it to filling in those blanks with answers that put me to blame … in other words, I felt that I must have caused it some how. It wasn’t until after it was over that I realized it wasn’t my fault, that the person was unstable. This person was half a country away from me. I can’t imagine a stalker being in my house, that close to me.
That’s what happened in My Hero and it completely creeped me out. This stalker wanted to create situations where the victim could be saved or helped by the stalker, situations that would in debt the victim TO the stalker. My experience was similar. This person was creating situations so that they could come in and ‘save the day’ and I’d feel indebted to them. And it worked for a while as I truly did feel grateful. Stalking someone online is a far cry different, however, from following them around in real life. Or cutting a hole through a bathroom cabinet from the crawl space under the house to be able to spy on them! That’s the part I found most creepy! I don’t think I’ve ever even considered that a possibility!
I know it’s just a TV show but, holy cow, do people do that??
Overall the episode was pretty good. I was a bit bothered that they opened the question of Nicole not being a good life-guard and then didn’t really answer it. I get why that was brought up. Angry parent wanting revenge makes for a really good potential suspect. Finding out the angry mother was watching (stalking) her from her red truck answered the question of who’d been following Nicole and her boyfriend in the red truck but, at the same time, it felt like a loose end.
Trent deciding to cool things off with Amanda because he thinks she still has feelings for Jack, saw that coming but I was hoping there would be more substance to it rather than just preamble. Trent is the reason Amanda allowed Jack into their son’s life. It hasn’t been going on very long and we haven’t been shown Trent catching Amanda looking sideways at Jack (or am I forgetting something?) or, in my opinion, anything to justify Trent calling her out and walking away. If he’s so uptight that a forgotten dinner date is cause enough to walk away then I say Amanda dodged a bullet.
It does beg this question, however. Are you team Jack/Beth or team Jack/Amanda? I’m unsure but leaning towards Jack/Amanda. Let me know in the comments (comment link is at the top of the post).
