Sleepy Hollow hasn’t been renewed for a third season yet. Makes sense, really, as season two hasn’t been so hot. It’s been crowded, convenient and it feels like someone(s) has hit the bottom of the demon-barrel. Or something. I have a few ideas on how to fix the show, however!
Short form (bullet list):
- No more Hawley.
- Less Sheriff Reyes
- Less Katrina
- More Irving
- More Henry
- Get Abby and Ichabod, together, back to front and center
Oh, and this one is just as important as the above:
- NO MORE DEMON PEOPLE TRAPPED IN PAINTINGS! GAH!
Season one felt original. It was fresh (for me as I don’t watch much supernatural this or that) and the characters had a chemistry with each other that I don’t feel in season two. I suppose there’s a limited number of things Ichabod can have that first reaction to but, you know, that carried a lot of the charm of season one, his disgusted and mind-blown reactions to modern life. It was cheesy at times, don’t get me wrong, but it endeared him to the viewers. I think.
Season two hasn’t been all bad, there’s just too many characters to keep up with and work into then story. Hawley, purveyor of the exact mystical weapon you need to kill the latest demon-of-the-week, he’s good for an episode here and there but bringing him in so often crowded the main characters out. Sheriff Reyes feels like a huge waste of screen time. I thought they were going somewhere with her power-hungry, by-the-book and tough as nails act. Now she feels more an after thought. I’d rather they dump the character than show her golfing (?) again.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but they need more Ben Franklin taking air baths in the buff. They need more Irving trying to toe the line between what the law says is right and what his heart says is right. They need more Henry, rage-filled revenge-loving Henry. They need to show him fiercely battle the need to be accepted and loved by his parents against his need to destroy everything around him. They need to show him tinkering with his custom-built Sleepy Hollow model.
And they need to have Abby and Ichabod working together while working together more. Branching off so much, Abby with Jenny and Ichabod with Katrina fills the chemistry that used to be there with big honking holes. Odd pairing they may be but it works when they work.
We need more episodes like the one where Abby and Jenny’s mother guided them to a truth. We don’t ever need another episode like last week’s where someone is trapped inside a painting. Serial killers? Sure. Hexed inside a canvas? No. Please, not ever again. That’s scraping the bottom of a barrel that shouldn’t have been opened kind of bad.
Oh. Spoiler warning. I’m going to mention a couple of things from the latest episode of Sleepy Hollow, Kali Yuga. If you haven’t watched it yet and want to before reading spoilers, here’s your ticket out of here.
I didn’t post about the week before where the guy came out of the painting because it was nearly enough to make me not watch anymore. The only bright spots in that episode revolved around Captain Irving being back from the dead. If he hadn’t come back and if Henry had been banished from the show, I probably wouldn’t watch anymore.
This week’s show was better than last and, hopefully, Hawley is gone. Gone for a very long time. I felt Hawley came full circle on redeeming himself in this episode, the perfect way to leave things and not have a gaping hole that needs filling!
Speaking of, where is Frank’s reflection??? OMG. Know what this means? He’s not the same Captain Irving we all know and love. He’s bad, probably, I’m assuming, either Henry’s doing or Katrina’s (I still think she’s really a bad guy) (‘least, I still really *hope* she is). Please don’t let this mean Abby or Ichabod is going to have to kill Irving! That would hurt as I love what he brings to the show.

What do you think about where Sleepy Hollow is headed? Happy with season two or do you think changes need to be made? Let me know in the comments (comment link is at the top of the post, the sneaky bugger).
