When the boys were younger, many moons ago, I was trying to teach them to do a spin-kick. They were amazed at how cool this kick looks (not really sure the correct name of it) listened intently so they, too, could do this. I showed them a few times, explaining how I did it.

Basically, you jump up and do a high knee bend with one leg while twisting your body and kicking up and out with the other. It’s been years since I’ve done this, eons worth of years, so pardon my vague description. It looks cool when you do it right and the boys couldn’t wait to try.

I think Wonderboy was the first one to try it and, if I remember correctly, he knocked his knee on an elbow and fell. Bear, however, was mostly interested in the high kick you do after the body twist. His excitement clouded his attention, however, and when he jumped up he immediately tried to do the high kick with both legs. He then promptly fell on his bottom because, hello, he’d kicked with both legs.

Angry, thinking one of us had knocked him down (he was young, …..) he jumped up with fists tight at his sides and started yelling. The boys and I were horrible people laughing pretty hard because it was funny! This made him angrier. Once we’d all calmed down I explained to him what he’d done and why he landed so hard on his bottom. To my knowledge he didn’t try this kick again. If he did, he did so in private.
