The latest episode of Gotham, Rogues Gallery, was, in my not so humble opinion, awesome sauce! If you don’t wish to have it spoiled before you view it, stop reading. I’m going to talk openly about the episode so consider this your friendly neighborhood spoiler warning.
FIRST!
I’M SO EXCITED!!!! BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS TO EVERYONE WHO WOULD LISTEN!! Hmm. All caps, I really am excited about this. Ahem. When I went to Fox’s site for Gotham so I could link it to the episode title (above) I stopped long enough to scroll down the page. GUESS WHAT I SAW???
If that means Babs I’m all for it. But even that isn’t what’s got me all a tither. I’ve been saying since forever that we have to see Robin on Gotham. You can’t, in my opinion, do Batman withOUT Robin! Every one has scoffed, told me no one cares about Robin, told me there’s no chance because Batman is ages and ages older than Robin (Maybe. Robin’s origin story has been changed at least one over the years), …. you name it I’ve heard it. No one wants to see Robin, that I’ve come across, but me. Well, guess what suckahs?
How’d you guys like this week’s Gotham? I thought we were going to meet the Joker given Gordon was assigned to Arkham. We didn’t, that I saw, but we were treated to quite an action packed episode that did not disappoint.
Barbara. Egads. High-five to Ivy for freaking her out! I don’t understand what in Barbara’s life led to her addiction and woe-is-me attitude. Did I miss that explanation? If I knew I could possibly have a bit of sympathy for her but, as it is, she grates on my last nerve in almost every scene she’s in. Poor pitiful Barbara. That said, MCU Renee is … pardon my language, but she’s a douche. Got what she wanted and now you’re bad for her reputation. Leave Gotham, Barbara. Just leave.
Gordon doesn’t seem to enjoy his new job at Arkham. Counting the crazies, watching them perform Shakespeare … just doesn’t have the same pizzazz his old job did and it appears to be boring him to sleep. The threat of being demoted further looming over his head makes you wonder how much he can take. I felt for him! It’s not just an ego thing at this point, it’s a man hanging on to the knot in his rope while he tries to figure out which way to climb up.
Seeing Gordon and his sheepish grin when Bullocks charged him and kissed him on the cheek was amazing! I’m sure we have, I think, but, have we even seen Gordon smile before this? Feeling appreciated and missed is a wonderful thing! Seeing a renewed Gordon back on the case tracking down the crazy responsible for the jacked up electric-shock-therapy was exactly what I wanted. You knew it was Gruber by the way he said he didn’t take anyone’s keys. I was expecting more from him after that but, given that he got away, I suppose that will come later?
My son thinks Gruber is Volt. I’m not familiar with the character so I have no idea.
Hopefully by the time we see Gruber again Gordon is back behind his detective badge. As long as he and Dr. Leslie can still work together. I don’t know who she is but I want to see more of her. Interesting character with a backbone. (Hint, Barbara)
Penguin stepped hard on Maroni’s shoes. I love Penguin but I was glad to see Maroni school him on the proper hierarchy as well as when to lean and when not to. I especially loved that it angered Penguin, being called a monkey. Heh.
Fish got on my nerves a little this episode. Was it supposed to be understood that she was aware that Butch was going to take care of her problem? The guy trying to poach Butch and his crew away from Fish was right about how the family works but that’s not always the best argument to ‘we need a new way of doing things’. Butch atoning for the secret prime cuts of beef was very much in setting. They were friends from way back. You have to come clean before you whack him, no?
My personal feelings aside, I could do without the Barbara/Renee/Gordon story. Tonight it felt forced, like screen time taken away from Arkham just for the sake of showing Babs and whoever. I did like seeing Selina help Ivy, show compassion for a friend.
I’m hoping the girls are still in the apartment, at least, Ivy, and Gordon finds her in two weeks.
