Around 20 years ago our neighbor gave us a two-three month old wolf pup. Bear wanted her name to be “Star” but I talked him into “Stardust”, a name befitting this gorgeous blonde ball of energy who quickly became a beloved member of our family. I’ve never met a more intelligent or loyal dog IN MY LIFE! Oh, the stories I could tell! Today I’m just going to tell you a family favorite involving Wonderboy and Stardust.
I’m not a fan of letting an animal get pregnant over and over, especially when you have a dog (in this case) that requires you to become their alpha in order to … how do you say it? Keep them in line? That’s a horrible way to put it really, but wolves are pack animals and can be dangerous. You have to keep that in mind. Stardust did have one liter of puppies thanks to a roaming stray and me not paying attention when I put her outside during nap time. I don’t like to have an animal fixed before they’re a year old if I can help it and as soon as she was ready, we had her fixed.
That’s when she started humping things and by “things” I mean every thing and person she could. She never did this before we had her fixed and as hilarious and sudden as this new fixation of hers was, it was also a tad embarrassing at times. I had the boys in the backyard playing while I cooked dinner one afternoon. We lived on a busy corner/intersection that saw LOTS of traffic throughout the day!
This particular day I noticed horns were honking as cars drove by the house. After a few horns I took a peek into the backyard to see what was going on. There was Wonderboy, around six years old at the time, “dancing” with Stardust in the back yard. I knew what he was doing and I also knew what it looked like. Stardust had tried to hump him … he thought it was dancing so he “danced” back.
I know my face was as red as a beet as I ran across the yard to stop his “dancing” and bring him inside!!
The best part? He waved to every *honker as he ‘hump-danced’ with Stardust. He’s always been an interesting kid to watch but this day he out did himself!
*spell-check wanted me to correct that to “hooker”. So glad I caught that!
