This week’s episode of FOX’s Sleepy Hollow, “Deliverance” was quite the doozy. If you haven’t seen it then you should do so before reading this post, unless of course you don’t mind spoilers. (<—— That was your spoiler warning)

doo·zy – /ˈdo͞ozē/  (noun, informal) something outstanding or unique of its kind.

I should probably explain that by “doozy” I’m referring more towards unique and, to be more exact, unique to the show. I’m sure somewhere it’s been done before, using ancient and powerful poison to craft a spider that will scurry down your mother’s throat and impregnate her with the arch demon himself, but we hadn’t yet seen this on Sleepy Hollow. Thus, unique. Or, if you will, a doozy! The descriptors revoltingly gross also spring to mind.

Also, I’m pretty sure if I swallowed a spider that big in my sleep I’d have coughed until my eyes were bugged and puffy, my cheeks red and I’m absolutely sure I’d have cried. Katrina is a much stronger woman than I!

Henry evokes feelings of concern and love from his parents, Katrina and Ichabod, even when he’s trying to kill them in the most evil of ways. The plan to bring Moloch to Sleepy Hollow via artificial insemination was brilliant! Using his mother as ‘the vessel’ shows just how far his contempt for her runs. It’s as if he wants them to know just how deep his hatred and feelings of abandonment go. He could have used any woman from Sleepy Hollow, and, had he done so, picked another suitable ‘vessel’, his plan may have gone off without a hitch. Instead he chose his own mother and, I assume, intended for the birth of Moloch to kill her.

Abbie, on the other hand, has no longing for or nostalgic memories of Henry and continues to call it as she sees it. Dude hates you and wants to kill you. He’s the Horseman of War! End of story. She does, however, have a similar dynamic with Jenny so you’d think she’d be a little bit more understanding. Needless to say, it’s a good thing she doesn’t let her heart cloud her judgement or get in the way of her Witness duties.

Not that Ichabod does, either. They both may walk on the edge of that from time to time but at the end of the day Abbie always saves the day. OH! Wait! This time Ichabod played a bigger role in saving the day than Abbie did! I was glad to see that, him being the ‘star of the save’ for a change. He not only helped Abbie and the sheriff’s department raid the warehouse and steal that slab of granite (?) but he broke it open AND used the aurora borealis prism to banish Moloch back to Purgatory and save Katrina. Usually he’s been hit or he falls and Abbie saves the day. Nice switcheroo there.

I’m being a little facetious here. Forgive me. Sometimes, to me, Ichabod comes across as bumbling rather than a war hero …

I was grateful Abbie and Ichabod didn’t just run to Hawley this week as I feel he’s a little too conveniently used. Have they filled him in on who Ichabod really is yet?

Ichabod seeing Katrina dressed in ‘modern’ wear was rather funny. Abbie playing on Sheriff Reyes lust for power was disappointing in that I was hoping Reyes would, eventually, become more of an ally. Right now I don’t see that happening. Henry accidentally showing Ichabod the terror he felt as a lost little boy has me wondering if it was really an accident or did Henry throw that at him to confuse Ichabod more? He does delight in seeing his parents suffer, after all. He seems far to in control to just let that slip, unless Ichabod truly did get to him. I’d love to think that, deep down, he still has some sort of longing for his parents, enough so that he’ll come through at the last minute, be their hail mary, in the fight against Moloch at some point. Andy did this to some degree but then he hadn’t spent hundreds of years in service for Moloch. That’s a long time to let things fester …

Succubus up next week and from the previews, she has her sights set on Hawley. Will Jenny rush in to save the day or rage out in a fit of jealousy? When will we get to see more than a moment or two with Orlando Jones (Irving)? Did you know the Headless Horsemen is played by four different men? Or has been played by four? (not sure which, there) Let me know in the comments. Link is at the top of this post.
