Didn’t get to see the show until Tuesday evening so this post is coming out late this week. I have some things to say about the latest episode of The Blacklist, “The Scimitar” so here, have some spoiler warning. Treat it nicely else it bites you!

I mistakenly thought this episode was the Fall (mid) finale show and was tickled pink to find we still have another episode, next week, before the hiatus starts! WOOT! I think Ressler needs to make good use of this break and KICK THAT RIDICULOUS PILL ADDICTION! PLEASE! For the love of God! Make it stop! I want confident and capable Ressler back. Thought he was a jerk in season one and now find I miss that jerk. Lots!
Whew! Got that out of my system.
Samar shone brightly in this episode! I found her sitting in a bar in Dubai with her little black dress, laughing and so … into … that guy, you just knew she was going to kill him. I didn’t expect her to toss him out of a 12th story window, however! Samar’s got it going ON! Seeing her concerned with her team, I believed her. If there had been others around instead of just Red then I’d have sworn she made her speech for their benefit. Moral character is so becoming in an assassin, no?
Liz keeping Tom on a boat was … I dunno. Odd? I thought it was an abandoned warehouse in a derelict part of town. But a boat? Ok, whatever. That’s kind of how I feel about the whole Tom thing right now. I get Liz has Berlin on her mind but what about her father? Tom told her he’s still alive. Why aren’t we seeing even an acknowledgement tossed our way? Tonight we saw Liz think about how Samar is capable of killing someone for personal reasons. We’ve heard Samar question Liz’s competence. If this is leading up to Liz killing Tom, as Tom thinks, I’ll be mad. That’s too easy. I want her to call Red once she’s done with Tom and let him take care of it for her. I want to see that Liz needs Red just as much as he needs her. I don’t need to see her tough as nails all the time. Vulnerability makes this show. It’s why we love Raymond Reddington so very much. Without it he’d just be a smooth talking con man and those are a dime a dozen on TV.
I really dug this episode tonight! The procedural, the FBI going after the Scimitar to protect against the counter-assassination fit seamlessly into Red’s plans. He gave Samar something valuable, something that would indebt her to him. What’s he going to ask in return? Just her continued loyalty? Finding her brother’s killer drove her but what did finding him spawn? And did Red know her brother was a suicide bomber (assuming that’s what the scimitar was implying)? Will Samar ask Red that question at some point and feel played or will she understand that if he’d just told her she wouldn’t have believed him? Maybe we’ll see Samar do a bit more side work and dig deeper into this, see what she uncovers and how Red’s connected!
Or maybe it’ll just be another side story. Who knows!
Tonight we found out that Zoe really is Berlin’s daughter! When Red told Berlin, “… She’s not MY daughter…” I felt that he was also speaking to us. Brilliant line, wonderful delivery! Zoe should be the catalyst that forces Berlin to throw in with Red to help him find who’s out for him faster. Pooling of resources! Should also save Lizzie’s neck a bit longer, at least, from Berlin. Makes Tom even more useless, no?
We still don’t know who Jennifer is but I felt like we were given a good wrap up on the Zoe mystery rather than prolonging that answer by beating us in the head with more questions. Red’s great with making you feel safe with him. He’s done it to Liz, Samar (to an extent) and now Zoe. She may have been a pawn in his greater plan but I would love to see him kill Berlin to ‘save her’, once Berlin’s no longer needed, as a way of saying ‘I’m sorry’. He’s so detail-centric, I can see this as a possibility.
