Sleepy Hollow: No way did that just happen

Awakenings, the latest episode of Sleepy Hollow to have aired, had much to get excited about but it has me paralyzed in fear. Potentially. I’m going to discuss that in this post so if you don’t want the episode to be spoiled, there’s your warning.

Anyone out there? If so, did you see how embarrassingly dramatic I was up there? I went with paralyzed in fear for the sake of being dramatic. It’s an over statement but I must admit I am upset and a bit fearful, UNLESS, things happen the way I hope they do. I’ll get into that in a bit.

Ichabod told us he cracked the Liberty Bell on this week’s episode. I immediately smacked my head on hearing this but, after getting the story as to why, I buy it. Enough, anyway. General Washington needed him to use black powder to crack the original bell so someone (details are fuzzy on that one, swiss-cheese-for-brains today) couldn’t ring the bell for evil’s sake. The bell shipped with magical powers that could awaken the witchy gene in lots of folks who may then use their magical powers to turn the tide of war in the wrong direction. Ichabod had to ‘crack’ it to prevent this awakening from happening.

It’s a bit cheesy but I’ll take it every day of the week over seeing Ichabod and Jefferson working on the wording of the Declaration of Independence.

Henry convinced Katrina he was done with Moloch’s plans and that the apocalypse had been all Moloch, not Henry’s doing. He, after a bit of soul-searching, realized he wanted to be among his own kind. Katrina, naturally, is his kind, and he did save her life. He wanted to gather a coven of fellow witches so they could, finally, be free to be who they were meant to be rather than having to hide their powers to avoid society coming after them with pitchforks or, worse, recreating the Salem witch trials. Katrina may not have raised her son but he sure knows how to work her, no? Saying exactly what she wants to hear in order to get her to do his biding.

‘Least, that’s my take.

His powers were working just fine when he beat those guys at the motel up. Apparently, that doesn’t mean they are strong enough to summon the bell ringing spell from the grimoire. I do think he needed Katrina’s powers, for whatever reason, and used her to further his plan. I am not buying this ‘I love you, Mother’ act. His anger at Katrina and Ichabod was so all-consuming, months of soul-searching can’t put out 250 years of seething anger. I think he hatched a plan to divide and conquer, personally, and the coven idea was his way of coming between Katrina and Ichabod.

Abby may have been the one to shoot Henry but Katrina knows that Ichabod was okay with killing their son. Divided indeed. I’m not sure Henry is dead if this was his plan. I’m hoping he’s not dead, that he faked his death just to make sure Katrina goes out of her way to destroy Ichabod. She was so enraged she jumped back into time to make sure that, this time, Ichabod would die for good. That way he couldn’t kill Henry, their son.  I know some feel that was too sudden but I can see it. Her son was killed before her eyes right after they’d made up and decided to spend their lives together, making up for lost time. She has dark tendencies and she snapped. Makes sense to me.

That said, seeing the evil pour out of Irving when Henry died looked pretty convincing, too. I’m torn, really, on what I think is going on. If Henry is really dead and gone does that mean the show is not coming back? Would it be worth watching if he doesn’t come back? He’s my absolute favorite so I’m biased, but I’m not sure it would be. Henry made the show for me.

Ichabod died and came back as did Andy and Irving. Katrina spent a couple of centuries in Purgatory and came back. Abby’s been there and back. Reavers! This show can bring back whoever they choose, really. I’m stamping my foot down and saying they’d better choose to bring Henry back if there is a third season. Better yet, he’d better be in the upcoming season finale!

Anyway.

Irving. He went from chasing Jenny around the tunnels as she lured him to the Gorgon head (to turn him to stone so they wouldn’t have to kill him, in hopes of unturning him at a later date) to puking Henry’s evil essence when Henry died. There’s been so much going back and forth with Irving I’m not sure what to think (of the character) anymore. If Henry did fake his death did he also plan for Irving to ‘convince’ Jenny he was rid of the evil Frank? So many possibilities here, so much up in the air. It’s maddening. Will they renew Sleepy Hollow and, if so, is Henry dead? I thought I’d read an interview with Noble (Henry) where he said they’d showed him the plans for Henry over the next few seasons. Now I wonder if I dreamed that up (can’t find the interview) …. UGH.

Let me know what you think in the comments. This is driving me bananas, all the wondering about different ways to go from here!
